State Department: Macedonia Is Regional Leader in Combat against Human Trafficking

With the release of the U.S. State Department’s annual Trafficking in Persons report, the United States commends Macedonia for again achieving ‘Tier One’ status.

The Government of Macedonia’s efforts to combat this terrible crime in the past year included prosecutions and convictions of police officers for complicity in trafficking crimes, an initiative to identify child victims and refer them to assistance organizations, and a significant increase in the amount spent on victim protection and support, the report reads.

"We encourage Macedonia to increase its anti-trafficking efforts in future years so that it remains a regional leader in the struggle against trafficking in persons, and we look forward to our continued partnership with Macedonia on this and other vital rule of law issues."
